Fuel consumption No. 1 challenge to fleet operators
Markets depend heavily - whether directly or indirectly - on the timeliness and efficiency of the global trucking and shipping industries. While the demand for high performance among fleets within the supply chain is apparent, the sector is not without its own range of challenges, and according to a recent study, fuel consumption is priority No. 1.
The Fleet Leaders Survey by driver performance and safety firm GreenRoad found 40 percent of respondents pointed to reduced fuel consumption as the top cost-saving method. Twenty-one percent cited lower crash costs, and 8 percent identified cutting emissions to meet eco-related objectives.
"Despite incremental gains in fuel efficiency and safety afforded by programs implemented recently, fleet leaders across North America are still searching for solutions and technology to help them meet their cost savings and safety improvement goals," said Tanya Roberts, senior vice president of marketing at GreenRoad.
Even so, a considerable majority of respondents - 94 percent - agreed that improving driving performance could lower fleet costs and improve sustainability, while a mere 19 percent held that their drivers do not have much room for improvement.
